I'm adding attic insulation inside the ranch style home. Per the building code in North and South Carolina. Builders are not required to install attic insulation above garages. But when you have a home that's facing the south and the garage is attached to the home. Heat from your attic and garage will have a impact on the inside of your home. I've seen homeowners add mini splits to their garages and not attic insulation. I recommend adding R38 loose filled fiberglass insulation. Which is about 13 to 15 inches.
